Ceremonies written
around you

For the days you’ll never forget, and the goodbyes that deserve to be beautiful personal ceremonies,
told in your words.

Welcome

A ceremony that feels right for you.
A tribute that truly honours a life.

Hello, I’m Debbie Bird, an independent celebrant based in Aylesbury, Bucks. Whether you are planning a wedding or saying a final goodbye to a loved one, you are likely looking for a ceremony that feels authentic, respectful, and deeply personal. These are some of the most significant moments in our lives, and they deserve a space where you feel heard and supported.

My role is not to tell you how these moments should look or feel, but to listen carefully to what matters most to you. By understanding your wishes and the unique dynamics of your family, I create a genuine service that reflects the people at the heart of the occasion. Every family has its own traditions, its own humour, and its own way of showing love. Your ceremony should be no different.

How it works

From first conversation to the day itself

An initial chat

We begin with a relaxed, no-obligation conversation by phone, video or over a cup of tea to see if I’m the right fit for you.

Getting to know you

I’ll listen carefully to your stories, your people, the things that matter most. This is where your ceremony begins to take shape.

Writing & refining

I write a first draft and share it with you. Together we will refine the words until they feel exactly right.

The day itself

I arrive early, calm and prepared, and lead your ceremony with warmth so you can simply be present in the moment.

“My role is not to tell you what these moments should look or feel like.
It is to listen.”

Debbie Bird, celebrant
About

Hello, I’m Debbie

I became a celebrant because I believe life’s most significant moments deserve more than a template. Having experienced both deep joy and profound sadness, I found that supporting others through these transitions is where I feel most purposeful.

I’m trained and insured as an independent celebrant with the International College of Professional Celebrants. I have stood beside families on their happiest days and their hardest ones; every life, however long or short, leaves a story behind, and being trusted to help tell that story is a privilege I never take lightly.

When I’m not writing ceremonies, I usually spend my time in nature or making memories with loved ones. Most recently, I have discovered a passion for singing with the Rock Choir.

If you’d like to see if we are a good fit, the first chat is always free, and the kettle is always on.

Questions

Things people often ask

Is a celebrant-led wedding legally binding?

Not by itself in England and Wales most couples complete the legal paperwork at a register office beforehand (it takes minutes), then have the real ceremony, the one that matters, exactly where and how they want it. I’m happy to explain how it all fits together.

Do you conduct LGBTQ+ and same-sex wedding ceremonies?

Yes, absolutely. Love is love, and every couple deserves a ceremony that authentically reflects their journey, their personalities, and their values. As an inclusive celebrant, I provide a welcoming and celebratory space for all couples, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, or legal status. Whether you envision a traditional celebration, a modern non-religious ceremony, or a completely custom ritual, we will work together to craft a personal moment tailored entirely to you.
Can we include religious or spiritual elements?

Yes. As an independent celebrant I’m not tied to any format, hymns, prayers, readings from any tradition, or none at all. Your ceremony reflects your beliefs, not mine.
How far will you travel?

I’m based in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire and the surrounding areas as standard. Further afield is rarely a problem but just ask, and I’ll be honest about travel costs.
How soon should we get in touch?

For weddings and namings, as early as you like, popular dates go quickly. For funerals, please don’t worry about timings at all; simply call me, or ask your funeral director to, and I will make time for you.
What does a ceremony cost?

Because every ceremony is unique and written specifically for you, I will always confirm a clear, fixed price after our first chat  so there are no surprises or hidden extras. As a guide, funerals are from £250 and weddings from £1500.
The ceremony

Making space
for what is here

For the words that need to be spoken. For the memories that deserve to be shared. For the promises that are being made. And, most importantly, for the people
who have brought us together.

Whether the day is filled with joy, tenderness, laughter, reflection or a mixture of all of these, there is no right or wrong way to feel. My hope is that your ceremony gives you a moment to pause, to be present, and to recognise the significance of this chapter in your story.
